I just signed the petition "Crown Counsel and the Honourable Sentencing Judge in the Province of Ontario: Apply the maximum sentence against Joshua Michael Mynott and Arielle Angela Ritch, who are charged with animal cruelty and obstructing police." on Change.org.
It's important. Will you sign it too?

Apply the maximum sentence against Joshua Michael Mynott and Arielle Angela Ritch, who are charged with animal cruelty and obstructing police.
This petition calls for justice for Eddie, a Rottweiler-cross, who succumbed to his injuries allegedly sustained at the hands of Joshua Michael Mynott and Arielle Angela Ritch. On Wednesday January 23, 2014, Thunder Bay Police Services responded to a report of possible animal cruelty. Investigation was completed and Joshua Mynott and Arielle Ritch were arrested and charged with animal cruelty and obstructing police. The dog, Eddie, was said to be emaciated and had significant trauma related injuries. There was a puncture to his eye and near the back of his head, and he appeared to be limping from a leg injury. Eddie was taken to animal services and subsequently a veterinary clinic. On Sunday January 26, 2014 Eddie underwent surgery to correct issues. Eddie passed away during surgery due to the state and body condition he was in.
We the undersigned respectfully request that Crown Attorneys proceed by way of an indictable offence in this case and that, if Joshua Michael Mynott and Arielle Angela Ritch are found guilty of the charges of animal cruelty against the Rottweiler-cross dog named Eddie, Crown Attorneys recommend to the judge the maximum sentence available under the law and the Honourable Sentencing Judge apply the maximum sentence available for these offences.
We also request that, if Joshua Michael Mynott and Arielle Angela Ritch are found guilty, the court, under relevant legislation, make an order prohibiting the accused from owning, having the custody or control of or residing in the same premises as an animal or bird for the rest of his and her lifetime.

That is so upsetting and awful. We cannot understand why people do this? We hope you all across the pond have success in getting a max sentence to those vile people.
Best wishes Molly
What a SAD SAD thingy. We hope that they get 87 years in Prison ... on Bread and Water. With very LITTLE bread.
We hope they get the MAXIMUM sentence, but alas, fear they'll just get a slap on the wrists. Life is so UNFAIR. That poor dog.

OMD, how horrible. Many places are still slow to improve their animal cruelty laws to reflect the kind of punishment people ought to get for such crimes.
