Squares for the Pittie Pack Memory Quilt

We have sent a square from the fabric that mom made our matching coats from. This fabric is warm, cuddly & looks great.

Frank, our husband also has a coat, made by our mom from this fabric.

Our mom also made coats for Ginger, Chip and Thai from the Dachsies with Moxie. The Dachsies with Moxie WHN (mom or Agnes) is making the quilt for the Pittie Pack's mom Sandra. We think this is most thoughtful and kind. You can check out Agnes's beautiful work and progress on the quilt, here.

We have also sent some squares of dachshund fabric.

Xmas Pressies from our husband Frank!

Look at all the pressies that Frank sent to his wives. He really spoiled us. We had a great time synchronizing the pressie opening with Frank on Christmas Eve.

Check out all the great toys. We are two very much spoiled wives. Dad B made us these special kibble knocker outer jars (complete with kibble). We have been having a great time trying to knock out the kibble or chew it out.

How wonderful is this quilt Frank had commisioned for his wives by WHN over at Dachies with Moxie. Isn't Frank handsome? We love being able to cuddle up to Frank on cold winter nights. Speaking of which, -32 C tonight. You know where you will find us - snuggled up under Frank.

Frankie, thank you so much for the candy, carpet with you on it made by Jazzi and Addy's mom and diamond butterfly necklace. I love all the gifts. You really spoiled me too. You are sweeter than all the candy in the box. Love Mom J.

Frank also sent us these beautiful new collars by Clara's Collars. Ruby's is bright yellow with pink lady bugs and Penny's is pastel yellow with pastel paw prints. We know it's kinda vain, but we have to say how smashing we look.

We share a bond that most humans will never experience in their entire lives. It’s built on undeniable, unconditional, everlasting love! It’s a rarity in this world and we think everyone and anyone should jump at the chance to adopt two wee little dogs who exhibit this kind of love! Not to mention, Sammi is as sweet as can be and as cute as a button! She seldomly barks, loves her walks and is great on her leash! In typical doxie fashion, she loves to sleep under the blankets on the couch with her boyfriend Scooby, of course! Scooby loves to sit on any human’s lap to be petted. He also loves his walks and is very quiet in the house. In typical doxie fashion, he loves his food! We’re also housetrained and extremely well-behaved, so everyone says! Heck, we’ll even live with a cat! We may be seniors but dachshunds are known to live well into their teens! We’re healthy and full of energy and life! We run and play but will always stop for a snuggle! We know there’s someone out there for us and we’re really hoping it’s you! – Sammi & Scooby

Words cannot express what awesome little dogs these two are! They get along wonderfully with everyone – strangers, dogs, cats! Please consider adopting these two special weenies! They will fill your life with so much joy and love! There is something to be said for senior dogs! They’re past the rowdy puppy stage, they’re not interested in chewing your furniture, they’ll walk with you but don’t require hours of exercise, they’ve learnt to be content just snoozing in the sun – I could go on and on. Hi! My name is Sweety and never has a name been so fitting! At least that’s what all those human folk say!

I’m a red, mini smooth, approximately 3 years old, although foster mom says I have one of those adorable “puppy” faces. I’m up-to-date on all my shots and am even housetrained and also pee pad trained for emergencies!

This whole being a dog thing is all new to me! Right now I’m a quiet but curious observer! Foster mom’s showed me these things she calls toys – they look so fun but right now I’m not quite sure what to do with them! And my foster siblings do this thing they call playing, I think they look so silly; chasing and wrestling with each other! One day I’ll surprise them all by joining in…right now I’m still learning and processing this whole new life! I might not have much experience at being a dog but I’m definitely willing to learn! Although I am shy, I want to be brave and I know with time and patience I’ll gain some more confidence! No matter what I promise to love you unconditionally and forever – I’m a snugglebug who is dying to find some humans of my own! Could that be you!?

Sassy & Wiggles need a home together!

We’re 9 years young, smooth black/tan happy and sweet tweenie doxie sisters! We could afford to lose a pound or two but are otherwise in great health! We’re spayed, up-to-date on our vaccines and are searching for a loving family, with room on their couch to share with us seasoned, mature gals!

So, here’s the scoop, because I know you’re wondering: “what are these two gorgeous, darling dogs doing in rescue?” Well, our family was moving and unable to take us with them so they brought us to the vets to be put to sleep! Luckily the nice people at the vet’s office called the good folks at the Canadian Dachshund Rescue who swooped in to save us! Foster mom thinks we’re pretty great! We are sweet, calm and very loving! We’ve been together our whole lives – we rely and depend on each other! Like sisters should be, we’re faithful to one another and care for each other no matter what! Oh, we love to meet new people – our tails start wagging like crazy! People must think we’re pretty cute because they always stop to pet us and we love every minute of it! Tummy rubs are just a bonus! We walk well on a leash and love exploring outside – especially watching those pesky squirrels! At night we sleep together in our crate without a fuss! I’m a 6 year old, tan, smooth, doxie girl! I’m 10 lbs of pure sweetness! I’m up-to-date on all of my shots, spayed and ready for a family who is as special as I am!

Happy! That’s me. My.tail.never.stops.wagging. I love you, and you and you and you! I might be a tad shy when we first meet (you can see I was feeling camera shy when my photo was taken), and I might even give you a couple of barks, but within a few minutes I’m your new best friend! I enjoy long walks, except when it’s cold out, then please make them short! But oh my goodness, the things that go on outside are way too fun! Cars, people, bikes – obviously meant for chasing and barking at! I can’t understand why my foster mom doesn’t think so!? But don’t worry, I wouldn’t hurt a fly – I’m just a curious and eager little lady! I do enjoy other doggies, especially my pal Tico – I am super good at washing his face with my tongue; everyone thinks that’s so nice of me! Bella has such a happy and sweet disposition – she really is a doll! Although initially she will play shy and even give out a couple barks, it doesn’t take her long to warm up! Her little tail literally never stops wagging! We think she would do really well with a family with older children – she just adores attention. A big yard for her to run in would just be a bonus! Bella will need some work on her housetraining – with routine and consistency things will improve. Although Bella entered rescue with Tico, it is not necessary that they be adopted together.

Today is Baxter's Guess Whoose Foofie Game Day. We couldn't resist giving it a go.

As you can tell from the picture, Penny's gas was so noxious that Ruby passed out after just one whiff. Mom had to get out the smelling salts for Ruby and open all the windows to clear the air. Lucky the fireplace wasn't on or we could have been roasted.

On Saturday we spent the day chasing all the squirrels who we're gathering pine cones in our yard.

This is a video of us trying to catch the black squirrel who teased us all afternoon. It was very much a team effort. I, Ruby kept sounding the SQUIRREL alarm(so annoying, you might want to turn the volume down) while Penny tried to catch the little rodent.

Here is a video of a Master Dog Squirrel Chaser. We have gotten lots of tips from him.

Frank sent me some wonderful pressies for my 4th birthday. Just look at all the balls and new ball thrower (mom calls it the "Stick")(I call it hurry up already, will you). He also sent me this lovely soft, squeaky chicken, which I really can't put down. He said I would like it because he knows how I like to hunt birds. I shook to death my first every bird earlier this summer and did victory laps with it all around the yard, while mom shouted for me to drop it.

Construction Work Part 2

We have been watching the construction of the bicycle lanes going on, on our street.

The curber came by and gave us brand new curbs. A very neat machine. The cement mixer fills the curber up with cement and out pops the curb from the back of the curber. The construction workers scurry after the machine to smooth it with brushes and then spray it with white paint. Be sure to biggify the pictures. You will be pleasantly surprised at who wears the white hard hat(crew supervisor/foreman)for this job.

We found this gigantic caterpillar in our yard this morning, after our walk. He is quite long and as thick as my mom's baby finger. He is a limey green colour, with yellow markings and a blue & black sparkly horn on his butt.

Thank you Frank, for sending me such great 4th birthday pressies. I love the unstuffie leapord with the 9 squeakers. It it so big that I can lay on it and squeak every time I roll over. This really bugs Penny, because she doesn't have such a nice squeaker toy. Mom says she is going to keep the purse for carrying stuff for us when we go in the car. Meet Hula Hula. She is our Unicorn. We found her in the basement. She has been staying down there in the dark ever since our human sister stopped playing with her, 15 years ago. We baited her with kitty kibble and corn pops, to like us and come out to play. Isn't she pretty?

Our wonderful hubby Frank and our MomL spoiled us again, for Easter.

Just look at the adorable Pawprints on my Heart necklace, custom made by The Road Dogs mom, Deanne Pace. The necklace is so delicate and pretty.

It looks really great on mom. She loves it and is not going to take it off.

Frank & MomL also sent some custom dog tags from Sugar's Paw House. We make such cute princesses. Mom is going to hang them from her purse so she can look at us all the time.

Frank sent us a huge box of goodies.

A cute denim bag, with our names embroidered on the front and Love Frankie on the back, made by Mollie Jo & Bobo's mom.

Cute chick & duck stuffies that peep & quack when we bite them,

and a whole bunch of Easter eggs stuffed with cute little, yummy bones.

Pees - dachshunds are prone to early periodontal disease. Ruby and Penny are both 3.5 years old. Penny had alot of tarter on her teeth while Ruby's are pearly white. Mom does brush with a chicken flavoured enzymatic canine toothpaste.

Pees - Ruby had a reaction to her vaccines. Her face, neck & ears swelled up with fluid. (The vet also said that if her fur was shaved you would be able to see the swelling on her body) She was given Benadryl thru the night, but the swelling did not go down. She had to go back to the vet the next day for shots of Prednisone and Benadryl. The swelling finally subsided almost 48 hours after the reaction. Her vet advised, as well as her MomL to only give Ruby one vaccine at a time from now on, along with a dose of Benadryl one hour before any vaccines are given.

Pressie from Frankie & the Charcoals

This is our hubby Frankie Furter & one of the Charcoals. The Charcoals live on Frankie's property and pay him rents.

On Tuesday we got a package in the mail from The Charcoals and Frankie. We knew the package would be arriving because our hubby teased us about it. Neener, Neener I know a secret.

Frankie sent mom, some of momL's deer jerkey. Our dadB in paw caught the deer. It is delicious.

He also sent mom some of her favourite candy. You can only buy the Pearson's Salted Nut Rolls in the USA. Mom loves them.

Frankie sent us, his wives some of his Tail Fluff. We each got a piece. We have it in our Den, Sock Monkey Beds. It helps to keep Frankie close, when he is so far away.

We each got a bag of MomL's deer jerkey. DadB caught the deer for us. We love it and so does mom.

Now, the moment you have been waiting for. Drum Roll Please.

OMD, Charcoal and Charcoal sent us each a bag of their rents.

Can we have some mom? (Check out the eyes) We really want some!!!

The rent snacks are delish. They didn't last long. We inhaled them. (mom brushed our teeth & tongues with chicken toothpaste afterwards)

Thank you for the pressies. Mom(not the rents) & we loved them.

Frankie Spoiled his Wives!

Frankie spoiled us again. Him & our MomL & DadB sent us some very special pressies. Frankie really knows how to play Santa Paws!

Our kitties really enjoyed the feather toys Frankie sent to them. They are older cats and really don't play to much. They played like kittens with their pressie.

Penny got to open her pressie first while mom took pictures and Ruby enjoyed Penny's delight in her pressies.

Next it was Ruby's turn. She really loves to open those pressies.

You can see the wrapping paper scattered all over the floor.

We each received:

a sock monkey bed
a sock monkey stuffy (they already need surgery)
a fluffy yellow bone stuffy, with hearts
a puppy stuffy, Ruby's was Christmas red & Penny's Christmas green
a yellow fluffy warm blanket, with a beautify pink flower on it
a snowman ornament with Frankies name on it

Thank you so much Frankie, MomL & DadB. We love our pressies. We love using our new beds so much that mom turned our old bed into a toy box.

As Frankie has the same bed, we now have husband & wife & wife, matching Monkey Beds.

This has been the best 1st Christmas with our Husband & our Paw in Laws.

Our mom received some wonderful pressies too.

We participated in Jazzi's Christmas Exchange this year.

Shiloh got to send Penny a Christmas pressie.

Penny received a Snowman rawhide treat, a reindeer Bobo and an adorable pink Piggy that she hasn't put down since she ripped apart her pressie. She even sleeps with Piggy.

Lily got to send Ruby a Christmas pressie.

Lily sent Ruby a cute reversable corduroy/plaid fleece coat, yummy wild salmon treats and Snake-in-the Grass.

The snakes are just Ruby's size and she loves to play with them. The treats are super yummy and she looks adorable in her new coat.

The Story of Us & Pressies for Mom

As we have told our adoption stories here, we thought we would tell you WHY mom adopted us.

WHY Ruby

When mom was a teenager, her friend had a miniature black & tan LH dachshund, who looked very much like Frankie, named Killer. This pup would follow mom around whenever she visited her friend or would snuggle up with her as soon as she sat down. Killer was sweet, adorable, goofy and Oh so loveable. Mom decided that when it was her turn to have a dog of her own it would be a miniature LH dachshund. That is WHY mom adopted me, Ruby when it was time for her to get a dachshund of her very own.

WHY Penny

As mom is a full time worker, I, Ruby was by myself during the day. Mom would come home for lunch (she still does) for an hour, but she thought that I was lonely. In 2008 mom started looking for a companion dachshund for me and herself. When she saw the picture of Penny on the internet it was love at first site, so that is WHY mom adopted Penny.

As we do not have any green papers of our own, or the means to get to the stores, we are making some homemade pressies.

Mom, Mom L & Dad B are all getting a jar of our soon-to-be famous bottled air kisses.

This is Baxter of kalyxcornucopia. Besides being an adorable dachshund, he is a model for his mom's creations. She owns kalyxcraftopia and designs custom dapper doxie duds and beautiful stuff for humans.

Mom first saw Baxter wearing his Elmer Fudd Flapjack hat in Feb. 09. She had to have some for us.

Thanks Baxter's mom, you do beautiful work. We love our hats.

Dog Mauled at our Dog Park

Yesterday afternoon a tiny 6lb chihuahua-papillon mix named Gus was mauled to death at our small breed dog park by a border collie/pitbull mix.

The owner of the collie/pitbull mix let his dog into the small dog park because he got along better with small dogs. The pitbull/border collie was playing with another dog and then charged after Gus. He flipped him and grabbed him by the neck. Gus screamed and when he was finally pulled off he was limp and screaming. He died on the way to the vet.

Charges have been filed as this dog has attacked other dogs at the park, but this is his first first death. As pitbulls are illegal in Ontario the dog will likely be euthanized.

Mom stopped taking us to the dog park because owners of larger breeds were using the park and she was afraid of something like this happening.

Sara is safe. She called to let us know that she has been found. She veered of the road and ended up in a ditch. She spent the night in a cabin that she broke into.

Our human sister Sara is missing. She followed an ambulance out to Burns Lake yesterday and the ambulance lost sight of her. The RCMP think she might have taken a wrong turn and ran out of gas. The RCMP have formed a search party and had the party & helicopters out until it got dark last night. They will head out at first light to search. Sara is a nurse working on a reserve in northern BC.

A Weather Bomb

We have had some bad weather over the past couple of days. Tuesday being the worst, with winds gusting up to 100km an hour. This type of strom is called a Weather Bomb!

Weather bombs are the most severe of all winter storms. Weather bombs are known for dumping heavy amounts of rain and snow, producing hurricane-force winds, and creating high surfs that cause severe beach erosion and coastal flooding.

The wind caused waves on Lake Superior to reach over 8 feet tall. This freighter weathered out the storm in our harbour. You should be able to see the Sleeping Giant directly behind the boat.

It's hard for little 10lb dogs to go outside in such wind. Mom was afraid that we would get swept away. She carried us outside with our leashes attached and put us in a sheltered area to do our business. We are happy to report that we did not have one accident in the house.

Joy is a Wiener Dog Wreath Supporting Rescue

Midwest Dachshund Rescue contacted us to ask if we would feature the Christmas Dachshund Wreath that they are raffling off to support their rescue.

We love the wreath, the ornaments are adorable. We have purchased tickets.

Our beautiful holiday wreath this year is about 22” and has tiny white battery lights. The background of the wreath is really gilded up with a lot of silver branches and silver beaded picks. There are 10 doxie ornaments, all coming out of or attached to metal or metal looking ornaments. All types of dachshunds are represented on the wreath. Black & tan, red, piebald, dapple, chocolate and wire haired.

The ornaments are all attached to the wreath with fishing line, not glued so they can be removed if your would rather put them on your tree.

The drawing will be held on November 17, 2010 and the winner will be posted.
