Good-bye Sweet Brutus

R.I.P. Brutus

June 1994 - October 29, 2008

Today mom had to help Brutus to the Bridge. Brutus had been living with liver cancer since June and he was very tired. Mom was owned by Brutus since he was a tiny kitten and her heart is broken.

Good-bye Big Bubbinloo, until we meet again.

Off Leash Play

Saturday morning was our last class for this session of obedience class. We played a lot of fun games and had lots of off leash time. I think the chocolate poodle Charlie had a crush on me, every chance he got his head was up my butt.

Crazy Figure 8's

Whenever I'm in my pen & need to run it's always in a figure 8 pattern. I'm going so fast that mom finds it hard to keep the camera on me.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday

I got a package in the mail on Friday.

It was a new harness. Mom has bought me this EzyDog harness since I was a puppy. This is my 3rd one. Mom likes it because it doesn't interfere with the big bone in my chest like some harnessess. It comes with a nice chest plate & a seatbelt attachment. It also has reflectors so I can be seen at night.

Here I am sporting my new harness. Mom got brown because she thought it would blend in with my fur & not be so noticeable.

On Saturday, mom & I went to Roseview to visit the residents. I received my name tag.

Here I am sporting my new name tag. Brutus says hello.

We also went to my obedience class. We missed last week because of my injury. We learnt how to go shopping & sit in a cafe in Paris. It was fun. Mom had to fill a shopping bag with stuff from different grocers. At every site I had to either do a sit stay or down stay while mom picked out groceries & paid for them. We also had to down stay while mom had coffee at an outdoor cafe. Mom also learnt some great stretches for dog backs that I should do before I go for a walk or to the dog park.

On Sunday we spent the whole day doing yard work. Mom raked while I played nicely in the back yard. This is all the bags she raked.

Mom still has to rake at least one more time after this tree drops its leaves.

Today marks the 2 week anniversay of my back injury. The vet said I could slowly start getting back to normal if I didn't show any signs of lameness. Mom thinks I'm ok. She let me run a bit in the yard. How great it feels to run again.

I found this stick while running. I had to stop & chew for awhile.

This came for me in the mail today. It says its time for my annual shots. Ouch.

My First Day Working

Today when mom woke me up, she said she had something special planned. She didn't have to go to work, & she was going to take me to visit some very special people. Today I started working as a therapy dog. (Thats why I had to have a bath last night).
I'm all ready to go. I have on my working collar, mom brushed my fur & teeth. (I can't get that close to people with dog breath, can I)?

This is where I work, on the 3rd floor.
I met many nice people who gave me lots of pets & snuggles. I had a great time getting all that attention and accepting all that attention put smiles on many faces today. I can't wait to go back next Saturday.

A Trip then a Trip to the Vet

This morning, just before mom had to leave for work, I decided to tussle with Chester the Cat. I walked in between all 4 of his legs & tripped him. He fell on top of me. When he got up, I couldn't get up. I was flailing my legs & squealing like a pig. Was I in pain, embarassed or scared? Mom didn't know, so she took me the the Vet Hospital. They checked me out & did xrays. The vet said I looked ok, except my back seemed arched at the T-L junction. She walked me around the hospital & I wasn't limping. They gave me doggy aspirin & $335 dollars later, I was on my way.

It looks like I'll be spending a lot of time in my crate. I'm to rest (no running or jumping, avoid stairs & up/down on furniture, short leash walks) for 2 to 4 weeks. No cat torture.

My 1st Gotcha Day

One year ago today my mom brought me home from the breeder.

This picture was taken the day I was born. I had to be nursed by my auntie as my mom had to have an emergency hysterectomy.

This was also taken the day I was born. I have 2 black & tan cousins & my sister is red like me.

This picture was emailed to my mom on September 11, 2007. It was love at 1st site. This is the day I became Ruby the Mini Dachshund, not just one of the litter anymore.
My 1st photo at home. My mom didn't own a digital camera, so this was scanned. You can sort of see my pot belly. My mom later found out that I had worms.

Me today. I could fit on 1 tile before, now I span 2. I weighed 1.5 lbs the day mom brought me home, now I weigh 9 lbs. I also have long hair on my ears & tail.

Look how little my collar was compared to now. That shiny spot is a dime.

I am a very happy, contented dog. Living the good life. I wouldn't change a thing. I feel blessed (so does my mom).

P.S. Thank you to Lorenza
